Like a true Sandy Pointer, Ambassador H.E. Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Douglas is very proud of his community and the very rich history and traditions of which it boasts.
The last of fifteen children, Kenneth was born on February 11,1975. He was raised by the community of Sandy Point and has dedicated his life to the advancement of his community Sandy Point, Fig Tree, and La Vallee.
From a very young age, Kenneth has been an ardent lover of sports, youth development, and education, which he pursued relentlessly after completing his secondary education in 1994.He taught for 24 years at various schools including the Dieppe Bay Primary, Washington Archibald High and Charles E. Mills Secondary schools and led each school into victory at the Federation’s Interschool Competitions. He demonstrated remarkable leadership in the sporting programmes at these institutions and helped advance them tremendously through sports.
Mr. Douglas is a firm believer that education and sports are two avenues to deliver solutions to many social ills, such as crime and poverty, plaguing his community and the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. He often passionately proclaims that children are the future, education is the best way out of poverty, and involvement in sports is one of the best ways to remain a productive member of society. This belief guided him through his many endeavours as a coach at the primary school, secondary school and at the national levels.
His zeal and success as a Teacher and Head Coach propelled his interest in pursuing a career as a physiotherapist, which led to his interest and acceptance of a scholarship opportunity in Cuba. He successfully completed his studies in Cuba gaining a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sports with a concentration in Physiotherapy.
Mr. Douglas’ altruistic nature pushed him to represent his fellowKittitian and Nevisian students studying in Cuba, as he fought for better conditions and representation. His efforts and work as a student-leader prompted the government of St. Kitts and Nevis appoint him as the non-resident Ambassador there. He served in that position until 2015.
Kenneth or ‘Kenny’, as he is popularly known around the Federation, is famous for his involvement in sports and the enormous impact he has made. He has served as:
- Physiotherapist and Trainer of the national cricket team, 1998-1999
- Coach of the national cricket during the Stanford 2020 series
- Physiotherapist and Trainer of the national football team, 2015-present
- Physiotherapist and Trainer of the Leeward Island cricket team 2012-2014
- Physiotherapist and Trainer of the West Indies B cricket team, 2014
- Strength and Conditioning and Rehabilitation Trainer, 2007- present
- Assisted with the implementation of a comprehensive fitness and testing program for the St. Kitts Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), that contributed to the success of the St Kitts Nevis national football team.
- Lecturer of the SKNFA medical team in physiology rehabilitation massage therapy and anatomy during the yearly SKNFA coaching license courses.
- Participated in the formation of a primary physical education curriculum with Australian Judy Myers in 1999
Mr. Douglas has assisted and guided numerous young people throughout his career as a teacher, coach, physiotherapist, and trainer. Some of his career achievements include capturing the school of the year title for the Dieppe Bay Primary School as Head Coach for two consecutive terms, 1999-2000 and 2000-2001; winning the interschool championships for three consecutive years for the Washington Archibald High School from 2010 to 2013 and Charles E. Mills Secondary School from 2015 to 2018 as the physiotherapist and trainer. He was also awarded teacher of the year 1999-2000 at the Dieppe Bay Primary School and in 2012 at the Washington Archibald High School. In addition to those achievements, Mr. Douglas was awarded coach of the year for the SKNFA division 1 from 2015-2016.
His love for people and his desire to assist them in advancing,motivated him to take the bold step of offering himself to be the voice of his constituents in Parliament as the SKNLP candidate for Cconstituency No. 5 for the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party. It is his strong belief that the people of Sandy Point, Fig Tree, and La Valle, deserve much better representation than they are getting today. Through the lenses of his humble beginnings, he pledges to make Constituency No. 5 the best place in St. Kitts and Nevis to live.
Mr. Douglas believes that the same opportunities afforded to him, and others should be afforded to everyone. His is passionate about giving back to his community and lives by his mantra “Wah for me, for you”.
He aspires to make available more affordable housing to the neediest young men and women within the Federation, as well as to launch an improved education initiative that will provide greater assistance to students. Ambassador Douglas has committed himself to creating lucrative jobs and youth programs that would bring about positive development, develop a Pro-Poor Investment Project to change the quality of life of the poor and ordinary people, and invest heavily into the local sporting sector in Sandy Point, Fig Tree, La Valle and the entire St. Kitts.
